Our focus on sustainability

At 500,000ft² this remains the largest commercial office building in Manchester, and wit a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, scoring 95.16%, it set a new national benchmark in sustainable design within the commercial sector.

A step change in workplace efficiency, which had their previous premises spread across 8 separate building and a total of 65 floors.

Designed to facilitate an ambitious programme of change and transformation, introducing flexible working practices, offering choices about how and where staff can work and ensuring sustainability in use.

Maximising daylight
by creating a design and spatial arrangement of areas that optimised the perimeter windows, especially important in areas of high, social activity.

The building is designed to be powered using a pioneering pure plant oil fed combined heat power, and cooling system from Co-op own grown rapeseed oil - a true closed loop system.

80% of furniture selected was British. Desking design solution commended by BIFM. 1,000 people engaged with ergonomic furniture pilots. Worked with design graduates to create an armchair that was made from leftover site material.
The spaces were arranged and designed to have a connecting flow, encouraging movement and cross-team interactions, layered throughout with natural tones and indoor-outdoor elements.
Daylight oozes everywhere including a central atrium that acts as an internal window, double height winter gardens and external terraces.
At its core the workplace design created environmentally friendly, economic, and socially positive spaces for Co-op colleagues that would enhance their comfort, happiness + wellbeing, performance, and social interactions.
